First Responders Trained To Deal With Exploding Volts

Monday, May 7, 2012

Good to know.

I love this picture from Political Clown Parade
At a conference in Las Vegas this weekend, the National Fire Protection Association provided a day of training for trainers — firefighters who will return home to share with their ranks practical knowledge about the cars.
Because you never know when the lib down the street may need help.
Although you certainly won't read any of this in legacy media, the Volt has been involved with a total of six separate fires, three while in the hands of the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration and three with owners who had not been involved in accidents.

If we weren't all crazy we would just go insane...

Picture from Political Clown Parade
Last week, the Obama Administration sought to increase the Chevrolet Volt purchaser tax credit from $7,500 to $10,000.
All this for a car so dangerous to first responders that the Department of Energy allocated $4.4 million dollars for programs to prevent fire fighters from electrocuting themselves while trying to rescue crash victims.

Volt Goes On Leave

Perhaps the five week layoff will be permanent.

One of my favorite pictures stolen borrowed from Political Clown Parade.
General Motors has told 1,300 employees at its Detroit Hamtramck that they will be temporarily laid off for five weeks as the company halts production of the Chevrolet Volt and its European counterpart, the Opel Ampera.
“Even with sales up in February over January, we are still seeking to align our production with demand,” said GM spokesman Chris Lee.
Barry should buy now, rather than wait five years.
They may be obsolete by then...Oh Wait!

Government Motors to recall some all the Volts...

One of my favorite pictures from Sad Hill News.

General Motors will strengthen the structure around the batteries in its Volt electric cars to keep them safe during crashes, a person briefed on the matter said Thursday.
GM will ask Volt owners to return the cars to dealers for structural modifications, said the person, who did not want to be identified because GM executives plan to announce the repairs later Thursday.

 That no one wants...

Image from Sad Hill News.
Each Chevy Volt sold thus far may have as much as $250,000 in state and federal dollars in incentives behind it – a total of $3 billion altogether, according to an analysis by James Hohman, assistant director of fiscal policy at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy.
6200 of these gems have been sold at last count.
